Companies I've built for

Do you need a CTO yet?

Answer a few quick questions about your company and get a straight answer: yes, not yet, part-time, or full-time. You'll also see the risks I'd look at first, and what I'd leave alone.

It takes about a minute. If you book a call afterward, your answers come with you.

Question 1 of 8

Where's the company today?

Investing in a company instead? Ask about technical diligence (opens Cal.com in a new tab)

Three ways to work together.

Pick the one that fits where you are. If you'd rather start small, begin with the review, and the fee counts toward what comes next. Not sure which fits? The one-minute CTO check suggests one.

  • Fractional CTO

When the team needs senior leadership

Senior engineering leadership before you're ready for a full-time hire. I own the architecture, hiring, and delivery, take the technical questions from investors, and build the hardest parts myself.

    • Monthly retainer
    • Scoped to what you need
  • Growth engine

    When you need more customers

A repeatable way to bring customers in, on whichever channels reach your buyers: email, LinkedIn, calls, partners, or your own product. I build it on existing AI tools where they fit, and custom where they don't.

    • Fixed fee
    • Up and running in about three weeks
  • Execution Risk Review

Before a decision that's hard to undo

A fixed-fee look before a raise, a rebuild, or a big architecture call. I review the systems, the team, and the roadmap, then write up what will break, what to fix first, and what to leave alone.

    • From $9,000
    • Takes about two weeks

For investors, I also run technical due diligence on a company before you commit capital, written up for your investment committee. Ask about diligence (opens Cal.com in a new tab)

Work I've led

Product, payments, and growth work where getting it wrong would have been expensive.

All case studies
  1. 2026

    BookedWorks

Outbound and engineering for an AI receptionist

Started with cold email to trades businesses across Ontario, then took on engineering at a venture-backed startup building an AI receptionist for home service businesses: shipping product, reviewing code, and helping hire and onboard engineers.

  2. 2026

    Theme Health

An outbound engine for a health app

Built Theme Health's B2B outbound from scratch: who to reach, sending domains kept apart from the main one, and sequences for each type of partner. Before that, a quiz funnel that turns a visitor's answers into a personal health insight.

  3. 2025

    Coinbase

    A stablecoin on-ramp for Argentina

Led the engineering team that launched peso-to-USDC purchases for Coinbase customers in Argentina, after the country's securities regulator registered Coinbase as a virtual asset provider in January 2025.

  4. 2025

    Coinbase

A new payments partner for Brazil

Compared vendors, assessed the technical risk, and worked the decision through with finance and legal before the partner went live.

  5. 2023–2024

    Shopify

    Shop Pay Installments

Led the team behind Shopify's pay-over-time product, built with Affirm. It lifted conversion 3.8% and added about $60M in incremental GMV.

  6. 2021–2023

    Shopify

    Shop Channel

Grew the Shop sales channel from 20K to 1.7M merchants and raised its App Store rating from 1.8 to 4.8 stars.

  7. 2017–2019

    Zynga

    In-app payments

Built core features for the in-app payment system behind most of Zynga's games, used by millions of players.

Zuwa Omigie

I'm Zuwa Omigie.

I've spent 13 years building software and leading engineering teams, most recently as an engineering manager at Coinbase and Shopify.

At Coinbase I led the Canada and Latin America engineering teams: payment rails, compliant onboarding, and the flow of funds in regulated markets. At Shopify I led Shop Pay Installments and the Shop Channel, and before that the team that built the native shopping experience in the Shop app.

I started Migie Labs in 2025 to work with startups directly: leading their engineering, building the hard parts, and setting up the growth engines that bring customers in.

  • You work with me directly, from the first call onward.
  • I take on a small number of engagements at a time.
  • What you share with me stays confidential.
  • Sometimes the right call is to leave a system alone, and I'll say so.

Questions founders ask

Why fractional instead of a full-time CTO?
Most companies need senior judgment on a handful of decisions before they need a full-time executive. Fractional gets you that now, and when it's time to hire, I can help you find and interview the right person.
Why would a CTO build our growth engine?
Finding customers runs on the same things as good engineering: clean data, reliable systems, and measuring what works. A growth engine can use email, LinkedIn, calls, partners, or your own product, and I build it on existing AI tools where they fit and custom where they don't. I ran cold email for BookedWorks before taking on their engineering, and built Theme Health's B2B outbound from scratch.
What does it cost?
Fractional work is a monthly retainer, scoped on a call to what you need. A growth engine is a fixed fee. The Execution Risk Review is a fixed fee too, starting at $9,000.
What kinds of companies do you work with?
Startups building with AI, and companies in payments and commerce, where I spent most of my career. If your problem sits outside what I know, I'll tell you on the first call.
Where are you based?
Toronto. I work in Eastern time with teams across Canada, the US, and Latin America.

Tell me what you're building.

Thirty minutes on a video call. You'll leave knowing where I'd start, and if I'm not the right person for it, I'll tell you.
